EVS Case History
A foundry in the Midwestern USA has two
12.5 MT, high powered medium frequency furnaces for melting ductile iron
at 1500°C. Typical campaigns were four weeks and 4,000 MT using MINRO-SIL®
RAM 1001, 0.8% Boron Oxide. Installations were done using a pneumatic
internal form vibration system (high frequency). The total reline time
including lining the spout and the back slagger with plastic, plus the
floor and sidewall took 6 people 9 hours to complete. This foundry
converted to MINRO-SIL 2001™
and achieved 6,000 MT campaigns using the same installation equipment.
Now using the EVS, the total reline takes 4.5 hours with
3 people. The packaging was changed to 1 MT bulk bags. The refractory
campaigns now last an average of ten weeks or 10,000 MT.
End result: Labor
reduced by 50%.
Installation time reduced by 50%.
Refractory campaigns have doubled.
